Portugal nurse protest leader goes on hunger strike
Following a walkout that took place for nearly a month, the leader of a nurses’ union in Portugal has decided to go on a hunger strike. The walkout that he helped lead was determined to be unlawful, and the government is threatening to penalize nurses who are still taking part in collective action against their employer. The union leader recognizes that a hunger strike is extreme, but intends to continue his strike until the government agrees to negotiate.
