Post-pandemic, US workers experiencing high levels of burnout from "productivity paranoia"
A new report by Microsoft indicates that the hybrid work environment might be exacerbating employee burnout. Despite productivity signals continuing to rise, managers have reported that it is challenging to determine with certainty that workers are actually being productive. This tension between the actual and perceived productivity levels associated with remote work versus in-person work has been coined as "productivity paranoia." Since the pandemic, the rules of work have been constantly changing, which has taken a toll on employees who have had to adapt to remote work and are now expected to return to the office. To address these issues and mitigate burnout, open communication between managers and employees has been recommended as well as setting clear objective standards for performance evaluations.
