Postal strike to disrupt NI mail
Over 25,000 members of the Communications Workers Union in the UK and Northern Ireland, will begin a series of strikes and walkouts today in a continuing struggle over pay and job changes. Although the 25,000 represent less than a quarter of the Royal Mail workers, they have the potential to disrupt some mail channels nevertheless. A national vote is scheduled for next month, which could induce all 160,000 CWU members to strike by October. A Royal Mail spokesperson lambasted the union, saying they were halting modernization, and failing to recognize the decline in volume of snail mail. The union, on the other hand, says that it is unfair of the company to enforce change without seeking opinions or agreement from the workers.
