Potential South African Labor Strikes Will Affect Platinum More Than Gold ? Thomson Reuters GFMS
Tens of thousands of South African miners, members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union, are ready to strike in a dispute over wages with the gold mining companies. There will be a work stoppage at three of South Africa?s largest mining operations which could strike a critical blow to South Africa?s economy. About 15,000 miners may partake in the labor action. Because the union spans several types of miners, the strike could affect the country?s platinum production as well as the intended gold production.
