Pratt Trial To Begin Today
A trial pitting the Machinists union against Pratt & Whitney in Bridgeport, Conn. began today. The union sued the company after they announced plans to move factories from Connecticut to Georgia and Asia. The union alleges that Pratt did not make a sincere effort to keep the factories in Connecticut and violated their contract with around 1,000 workers. The Machinists got support from a brief written by the state Attorney General, and a victory might give them time to convince Pratt to keep the factories in Connecticut. If the Machinists lose, Pratt has said that it will start laying off workers at the end of January.
