Prison guards union drops Schwarzenegger recall bid
The California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA) retracted its recall bid of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Thursday. The union, one of California's most dominant, abandoned the bid after considering the current state of the economy and fundraising necessary to compel a special election to oust Schwarzenegger. The initial effort for a recall was not shocking as the CCPOA has been without a contract for two years, fighting an extensive labor battle with state. While the union's negative views of the Governor are widely shared by many Californians, polls show a special election would not favor recall, and would cost California taxpayers millions of dollars.
