Pro-union act becomes issue in Senate race
The Employee Free Choice Act would permit employees to unionize without a secret ballot election if more than half of the workers signed union recognition cards. The bill, passed in the House last year but killed by Republican filibusters in the Senate, is suddenly back on the map as Senate candidates in Colorado and several other states take opposing stances on the legislation. It is widely agreed that the act would increase unionization in America, but opponents argue it would also unfairly allow union organizers to intimidate workers. Likewise, supporters of the legislation claim unfair intimidation by employers already exists.
