Progress seen in GM-UAW talks
In talks deemed crucial for allowing GM and Delphi to compete with non-union auto plants operated by their Japanese competitors, negotiators from both firms met with those from the United Auto Workers union this weekend and moved closer to a cost-savings agreement. Delphi has already declared bankruptcy, and failed talks could send GM down the same path. While there were rumors that the three sides are close to a deal, no representatives will yet comment officially.
