Proposed changes to union rules divide U.S. business, labor
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will hold hearings to receive input on a proposed rules change which would allow pre-elections hearings to be expedited and validate electronic signatures. Business and union groups are lining up on either side of the issue to testify on Thursday and Friday. Business groups are saying that the rules changes will create the opportunity for union organizers to hold ?ambush elections?, organizing drives that is decided before the employer has a chance to respond. Union groups are saying that ?ambush elections? are a ?doomsday scenario? and unlikely to happen practically. Proponents say that the current rules are terribly outdated and in need of an update.
