Proposed US overtime rules come under fire
The Bush administration's proposed overtime changes are being widely criticized by labor rights activists who claim the changes will make life worse for thousands of Americans. The overtime regulations have not seen major revisions since 1938 and the new legislation, slated to take effect on August 23, is designed to bring those rules up to date. Overtime protection for workers who earn less than $23,660 per year would be guaranteed, but critics point to problems with loopholes and question the fairness for those making between $23,660 and $100,000. It is also estimated that as many as 1.5 million Americans will be denied overtime by a change in the definition of an administrator.
