Prosecutor: Uber drivers may not be as carefully vetted as company advertises
District attorneys from San Francisco and Los Angeles who brought a suit against Uber last December have now expanded that suit to include the ride-sharing app’s claims regarding the background checks used to evaluate potential drivers. The suit’s original scope involved Uber drivers’ unauthorized work at airports, but now claims that Uber has hired 25 drivers with criminal records. Uber, in turn, claims that any system will make mistakes, but that the checks they use are as effective as any others in the industry.
