Protecting Underage Models Becomes a Federal Issue
As the trend of hiring models under the age of sixteen continues to grow in popularity, the issue has been raised within the government of whether these young professionals are well protected from labor exploitation. Often these models are considered exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This year, Representative Grace Meng proposed the Child Performers Protection Act that will establish salaries, working hours and no longer allow models to be paid in clothing.
