Public transport workers on strike in Athens
Athens transport workers held a strike on Tuesday, causing huge traffic jams in the city. The bus and trolley workers are holding a two-day strike, and metro workers defied a court order and walked off the job. The strike is to protest more public sector reforms, which includes restructuring the transportation companies, a move that the unions strongly oppose. The restructurings are part of the deal that the Greek government made with the European Union and the International Monetary Fund when they accepted a bailout last year. Further walkouts are planned for this week.
