Qanatas chief Alan Joyce in three-prong union attack
The president of airline company Qanatas, Alan Joyce, is attacking the three major airline unions, saying that they are attempting to sabotage the company. Joyce said that the unions' pushes for better pay and working conditions for foreign airline crews working in Australia would be too damaging to Qanatas to ever accept. He said that accepting any of the things that the unions have asked for would effectively kill jobs. The three unions that have been in negotiations with Qantas, the pilots, engineers and transport workers, have been meeting with the company for months over issues surrounding pay and working conditions. Joyce also criticized the Transport Workers' Union, saying that they were drawing up support in the case of an industrial action. A representative from the International Pilots' Association said that they were disappointed with Joyce's critiques.
