Rail strike looms as signallers back walk-out
The United Kingdom is facing the possibility of a rail strike after the results of the signallers' ballot was released. The signallers voted 54% in favor a strike, along with the maintenance workers, who voted 77% in favor of a strike earlier this month. Both groups are represented by the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union, which has not indicated whether or not they will call for a strike over Easter. Maintenance workers are upset over restructuring and redundancies, while the signallers are taking issue with rosters and a new rail line due to open next month. Some are hoping that the threatened strike will be resolved through negotiation, as has often happened in the past with the RMT.
