Rauner scores big win over union on contract talks
After a unanimous ruling by the Illinois Labor Relations Board yesterday, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 31 union is officially in a stalemate with Governor Bruce Rauner. The ruling is significant because it allows the Governor to implement his contract despite union opposition. The union plans to appeal the decision, but has also called upon Governor Rauner to restart negotiations instead of forcing his terms. The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 31 is Illinois’ largest state employee union. Gov. Rauner’s terms include bonuses correlated to attendance, various healthcare options, reduced holiday pay, and prevention on overtime pay if an employee has not yet worked 40 hours in a given week; however, his contract notably lacks guaranteed salary increases.
