Recent report shows that rent is out of reach for most minimum wage workers
A recent report revealed that minimum wage workers can no longer afford rent across the country. “A full-time minimum wage worker can afford a one-bedroom rental in only 7% of all US countries.” According to the report, workers would need to earn $24.90 per hour to afford a two-bedroom home at fair market rent while the federal minimum wage is only $7.25. The numbers show that this is a consistent issue across all states. The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the unstable housing situation.
