Reducing Canada's Workplace Gender Gap Would Add $150 Billion To GDP
A new report from the McKinsey Global Institute found that moving towards gender equality in the Canadian workforce would add $150 billion to Canada’s GDP by 2026; if full gender equality is reached, it would add $420 billion to the economy. 600,000 jobs would have to be created for women, especially in highly productive sectors like technology and oil, and additional steps need to be taken to eliminate barriers blocking women from STEM or becoming entrepreneurs. Although Canada is known for its high gender equality, its progress has stalled in the past 20 years. The report concluded that without gender equality in the workforce, gender equality in society cannot be achieved.
