Report: 215,000 German jobs threatened by crisis
A German newspaper reports that up to 215,000 German employees could lose jobs in 2009. The report surveyed a range of labor groups and economic experts to compile estimates factoring in the not yet obvious affect of the global economic crisis on labor (Germany's unemployment rate actually fell in October). The report's findings indicate 50,000 to 100,000 layoffs could affect the auto industry alone, with the logistics and delivery, building, retail, banking and insurance industries facing significant job losses too. Several industry groups, however, have said they expect to maintain current employment levels.
