Rights group takes meatpackers to task
A report presented by Human Rights Watch revealed the life-threatening on-the-job dangers that workers in the nation's meat and poultry industries are exposed to. The report, written by Cornell University labor law expert Lance Compa, also accuses companies of discouraging workers to report their injuries and pressuring them not to join unions. The American Meat Institute, the leading trade organization for the nation's meat and poultry companies, denied the accusations and said that the report was full of baseless claims.
