Royal Mail union agrees pay and modernization deal
After months of negotiation between the Communications Workers Union and Royal Mail, the two have come to an agreement. The deal includes a 6.9% pay raise over three years, a bonus, and changes that Royal Mail has been pushing for in the face of declining postal usage. Royal Mail also agreed to keep 75% of the workers as full-time employees. The new changes will include automated sorting machines and new delivery equipment. A representative of the CWU said that the deal was a good one, especially when other workers were facing pay cuts. The agreement still has to be voted on by the CWU members.
