Rule on Child Workers Pulled
The Labor Department has withdrawn a rule that would have restricted the type of work children are allowed to do on farms. The rule would have prohibited children under 16 from using certain equipment and working in specific areas, which the Labor Department said would help cut down on injuries. Opponents said that the rule would hurt businesses, and make it harder for kids to explore interests in farming. Supporters of the rule said that it was not supposed to discourage children from working on family farms, but to help prevent any injuries or accidents.
