Ruling Doubles Paycheck for 1,375 Employees at High-Grossing Queens Slot Parlor
An impasse over a year old between a Queens slot parlor, Resort World, and the Hotel Trades Council, the group representing the employees, has come to a close with an arbitrator?s ruling. The arbitrator considered both the success of the business and what was necessary for full-time staff to be making to support their selves and their dependents. Many of the 1,375 employees will see their pay almost double to an average of $40,000, up from approximately $22,000. The workers also gained healthcare insurance. Rather than open its books, Resort World chose to accept the arbitrator?s judgment and concede that it could pay the higher wages while remaining profitable.
