Russia Exploits Migrant Workers for Olympics, Rights Group Says
According to a report from Human Rights Watch, workers building the structures for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Russia have been exploited. The report found that some workers were forced to work long shifts with no time off and that passports and wages had been withheld. The workers were mainly from other eastern European countries and earned between $1.80 and $2.60 an hour for twelve hour shifts and one day off every two weeks. The Russian government says that the number of workers and contractors made it impossible not to have such abuses occurring.
