Russian government to conduct layoffs in territorial branches of federal agencies
The Russian government announced that it would be conducting layoffs in the public sector, resuming a country-wide plan of optimization reforms. The reforms began in 2019, the government cut around ten percent of public sector employees and digitized various public sector resources. President Putin signed an order for territorial branches of federal agencies to cut another ten percent of employees by July 1st, 2025. Around 400,000 Russians work for the territorial branches of the federal agencies, and this makes up less than one percent of the country’s total workforce. The layoffs will allow the Russian government to pay higher wages to the remaining public sector workers.
