S. Africa union may strike over Wal-Mart, Massmart deal
Anti-Walmart Coalition, a group formed by the South African Commercial, Catering and Allied Workers Union says that it plans to ask other unions to join it in putting pressure on shareholders in Massmart to resist Wal-Mart's bid to buy a controlling share in South African retail chain Massmart. The SACCAWU says that it will not rule out striking if Wal-Mart buys Massmart. Their demands to the Massmart in the event of Wal-Mart buying the shares include keeping current employment agreements in place and extending them to Wal-Mart stores across the world.
