SAG-AFTRA goes on strike against video game companies
SAG-AFTRA, the union who is representing videogame voice actors across multiple top gaming companies, began striking on Friday morning. Voice actors whose recordings were used in games from February 17, 2015 took part in the work stoppage. Additionally, protests will begin today outside Electronic Arts, a prominent gaming company. The union is pushing for improved safety conditions and a compensation system that would award actors based on the success of one of the games they performed on. The game makers responded with a contract offer that included a 9% wage increase and an additional $950 per game based on how many sessions a voice actor performs. SAG-AFTRA responded, calling the current compensation arrangement a “freeloader model.”
