Salary disclosure laws attempt to make job searching more effective, reduce inequality
Various states and cities have recently passed salary disclosure laws, requiring job postings to include salary ranges. These laws allow potential hires to have a better understanding of the expected wages of the position and also reduce gender and racial pay discrepancies. However, salary ranges are only useful to potential employees when the pay ranges are precise, and provide accurate information regarding the job. Some companies have posted wide pay ranges that detail the pay range for the whole company instead of the specific position. This practice is becoming more common in high-paying industries, and it is reducing the usefulness of advertising pay ranges for these positions.
