San Diego Union-Tribune announces 112 job cuts
Print media takes several hits this week, as newspapers in the U.S. and the U.K. announce job cuts and sell-offs. Platinum Equity, the relatively new owner of the San Diego Union-Tribune, has announced 112 cuts at the paper, just three months after 192 jobs were lost in May. Platinum Equity has also entered the bidding for the Boston Globe, which the New York Times Co. is looking to sell-off. In the U.K., Gannet, Inc. announced that 288 newspaper and advertisement sales staff would be required to re-apply for their positions, and that 70 of them would not come back. The paper, called The Journal News, is based in Westchester, New York, and already endured the cutting of 57 production, finance, and tech employees last week.
