Santa Barbara paper illegally fired union backers, judge says
The Santa-Barbara News-Press was found guilty of unfair labor practices in the firings of eight journalists last year, and was ordered by a judge to rehire the employees. The suit, brought forth by the National Labor Relations Board, charged the newspaper with punishing employees for attempting to join a division of the Teamsters. Managers for the paper had stated the reporters had been fired for writing "biased" stories and exhibiting "disloyalty against the company". Representatives for the Santa-Barbara News-Press stated the paper will appeal the decision.
