Saturday Night Live visual effects artists vote in favor of union representation
Visual effects artists working on the Saturday Night Live show have successfully formed a union and will be represented by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. The union will represent sixteen VFX workers, and the number of VFX workers is expected to grow in the coming years as the demand for visual effects during shows increases. Saturday Night Live is produced by Broadway Video and NBC Universal, and the production companies have already ratified their first contract with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees for SNL editors. SNL editors unionized in 2022, and a collective bargaining agreement was reached in 2023. SNL visual effects artists state that their jobs are challenging but rewarding, and union representation will create a more sustainable working environment.
