Scheme promoting IT jobs to girls
The British education secretary has launched a program aimed at raising girls' awareness of IT-related careers. The program, called Computer Club for Girls, seeks to persuade girls that IT jobs are not 'just for boys,' and is being rolled out to 3,600 schools across England. With women making up only one-fifth of the British technology workforce, an initiative creating awareness of the field for girls of all ages is sorely needed. In a show of support, firms such as IBM, EDS and British Airways have pledged to support the program.
