School district in Spokane, Washington reaches tentative agreement with teacher union, avoids first day of school teacher strike
Earlier last week, the teachers in a Washington state school district voted in favor of strike authorization. Teachers were set to strike on the first day of school on Tuesday, but teachers will be in classrooms at the start of the school year as the school district and union reached a tentative agreement. Teachers in the Cheney school district are represented by the Cheney Education Association, and the school district is the largest district in the Spokane area. Teachers are set to vote on the tentative contract on Monday, and the vote will finalize the three-year contract. Negotiations between the two parties began in May, and eighteen negotiation sessions occurred before the tentative contract was reached.
