Schools around the Quebec province are exercising large teacher and support staff shortages in schools
As the new school year begins in Canada, many teacher positions as well as support staff positions in schools around the Quebec province are vacant. Open positions range from janitorial staff, sectaries, special education aides, and afterschool school childcare employees. The Federation of Public Service Employees-Confederation of National Trade Unions states that the number of staff vacancies will continue to increase if working conditions and salaries don’t improve. With a shortage of teachers and staff workers, employees will be responsible for larger groups of students, and certain services will either be limited or canceled. The largest French-speaking school in Montreal has over 200 vacancies, while another school in Laurentians has around 400 open positions.
