Scranton's Public Workers Now Paid Minimum Wage
Scranton says that they have reduced every city worker's pay, including the mayor's, to minimum wage. The city has a $16.8 million budget gap, one which the mayor wants to fix by raising taxes, but the city council wants to borrow money The mayor says that he wants everyone to get paid, but that there is no money. After workers were paid on Friday, the city had about $5,000 in the bank. Firefighters, police and other public workers have filed a lawsuit against the city, and a judge has issued an injunction, however the mayor says that he has no choice.
