Seattle Won’t Enforce Driver-for-Hire Union Law, For Now
Seattle determined March 30 that it will postpone enforcing its landmark law to allow ride-hail drivers such as Lyft and Uber join labor unions. The law will not move forward until Judge Lasnik rules on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s motion to delay the ordinance and an April 3 deadline requiring the ride-hail companies to submit driver information to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ Local 117 union. Due to a coinciding criminal court trial, Lasnik’s decision could be reached as late as April 5, so the April 3 deadline will be extended.
