After the Rail Maritime and Transport union voted to go on strike over the planned cuts of 800 ticketing jobs at the London Underground, the Transport Salaried Staffs Association says that 72% of its workers have voted in favor of striking with the RMT. The London Underground called on the TSSA to stop threats of a strike, saying that only 35% of the union's members voted in favor of the strike. A representative for the company said that they are not sacrificing safety, but that they need to be an efficient organization for customers and taxpayers. The union leaders say that they are sending a message to the company and to the British government that they will not watch them cut jobs in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics. The heads of the TSSA and the RMT are expected to meet on Tuesday to announce strike dates.
