SEIU, Minnesota home health care workers file for union election
26,000 home health care workers in Minnesota will vote on whether or not to unionize and join Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Healthcare Minnesota, it was announced Tuesday. Many workers have described their contributions to their community and their neighbors as "invisible", and claim that unionization will give their profession legitimacy in the eyes of the public and the government. The fight to unionize is expected to prove an uphill battle in a state already struggling to keep health care costs down. The vote is expected to take place later this summer.
