SEIU survives attempt at Napa union ouster
In the city of Napa, in California, the SEIU has scored another win against a rival, local union, seeking to represent the municipal employees without the national overhead and guidance. In an ongoing battle, the California Public Employees Relations Board has decided that a vote to change union representation from the Napa City Employees Association/SEIU to the Napa City Employees Association was invalid because it was too confusing for many of those voting. Though the Napa City Employees Association has since changed its name to the Napa Independent City Employees, the petition for another secret ballot vote was scrapped by the state labor relations board at the end of January. This means that the Napa Independent City Employees union will have to collect petitions for a third time if its members still want to remove the SEIU influence from their collective.
