Senate confirms Smith for Labor post
The Democratic nominee for the number three position at the US Department of Labor was confirmed earlier today, literally only hours before newly-elected Republican Senator from Massachusetts, Soctt Brown, was scheduled to arrive and officially take his seat on the Senate. The GOP had been holding up the confirmation as long as possible, in an attempt to wait for the 41st Republican vote, which would have been sufficient to block the Democratic agenda. The Republicans claimed that the Democratic nominee has misled lawmakers about her role in the creation of a New York City program intended to assist labor unions. The new number three, taking on the position of solicitor is Patricia Smith, who was nominated by President Obama nine months ago. She was confirmed by a vote of 60-37.
