Senate debates measure to nullify union rules
The Senate began debating an effort to overturn new labor regulations on Monday. The change makes it easier for union elections to take place. The rule reduces the time between when a petition is filed and when the election is held, as well as reducing number of cards indicating interest in an union needed to trigger an election. Opponents say that the change gives too much power to unions, and that employers are not given a chance to share their opinion. Unions say that the changes are sensible, and that they are not worried. The President has indicated he would veto any changes to the regulations.
