Senate spurns overtime plan
On Wednesday, the Senate voted to attach an amendment to Bush's overtime bill that would prevent the Labor Department from changing white-collar overtime exemptions under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Critics of the proposed changes to white-collar overtime exemptions say it would strip 8 million workers of overtime pay. The president of the AFL-CIO has called this a major victory for working people. The White House has threatened to veto the spending bill that the amendment is attached to, which could delay funding of U.S. health, labor and education programs.
