SEPTA employees vote to authorize strike action
Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority workers have voted in favor of strike authorization, and will take strike action if a contract agreement is not reached by November 7th. Over five thousand SEPTA workers are represented by the Transport Workers Union, and the union stated that one hundred percent of employees voted in support of authorizing strike action. The union is seeking increased wages, and improved safety measures and better security for workers. The union is asking for improved safety protections after a SEPTA bus driver was shot multiple times and killed while on shift. SEPTA has stated that it is committing to negotiation in good faith with the Transport Workers Union to reach an agreement. SEPTA is dealing with financial issues, and currently has a budget shortfall of $240 million.
