SEPTA workers represented by Transport Workers Union delay potential strike action as negotiations progress
Transport Workers Union, the union that represents thousands of Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority workers, has decided to delay potential strike action as contract negotiations with SEPTA management continue. The previous union contract expired Friday morning, and unionized workers voted in favor of strike authorization last week. The union stated that sizable progress in negotiations had been made, but stalling strike action does not eliminate the possibility of future strike action. Workers are demanding a wage increase as well as improved safety standards, but the current proposal from SEPTA management does not meet these demands. Instead, the current proposal provides a one-time signing bonus to offset increases in healthcare costs for employees.
