Sequester sparks laid-off workers suit
Three former employees of a defense contractor company are initiating a class-action lawsuit over the company?s handling of layoffs. The employees allege that the company violated the federal WARN Act, which requires that workers be given 60 days of notice before termination. In a memo issued last year, the Obama administration pledged to pay off any legal costs associated with the effects of the WARN Act tied to sequestration. It is still uncertain whether the government will be responsible for the contractor's legal costs. The terminated employees are seeking back pay for wages and other compensation they would have earned during their 60 day notice period.
