Several Minnesota labor unions join together in collective strike action
Thousands of employees in Minnesota will be participating in strike action this week. These employees work in various industries and are joining together in an attempt to gain more power at the bargaining table. Various unions represent the workers, and the unions waited until contracts expired to be able to join together and participate in a collective strike. On Monday this week, four thousand janitorial workers went on strike, and on Tuesday one thousand employees in nursing homes took strike action as well. Teachers are set to begin strike action next week. Numerous unions have already felt the impact of the coordinated strikes, and these unions have successfully negotiated new contract agreements. Bus drivers, municipal workers, security guards, and cleaning workers are some of the employees who received significant wage increases and improvements in employee benefits from the newly negotiated contracts.
