While Unite Here remains locked in a labor dispute with eight prominent Los Angeles-area hotels, the union is making progress with smaller independent hotels. The issue preventing the big multinational chains from settling is the contract expiration date. The union wants all contracts to expire in 2006, opening the door for a national strike.
