South Africa labor talks sink platinum, palladium
The strikes for higher wages in Platinum mines in South Africa are having a major effect on international markets for precious metals. The prices of Gold, Silver, Copper, Palladium, and Platinum all fell within the past week as it began to look more likely that the impasse between miners and the country?s three largest mining companies is likely to find resolution soon. The Wall Street Journal reported that the companies have indicated a willingness to grant raises to the 80,000 miners and equipment operators if they return to work. The strike is nearing its fourth month.
