South Africa Sees New Mine Unrest
On Tuesday, South African police fired rubber bullets at striking mine workers. The worker are employed by the world's largest platinum producer, Anglo American Platinum. The company is the last mining company with major worker strikes. Wildcat strikes at South African mines cost the economy billions and have limited production since August. The company had threatened to dismiss 12,000 workers for striking, but said that workers could return on Tuesday without a penalty. Workers said that they wanted more from the company, including discussions about wage increases.
