South African Farmworkers Continue Strike in Defiance of Unions
South African farm workers are continuing to strike, despite calls from the government and the union that represents some of them to return to work while negotiations over the minimum wage continue. The government said that it hopes to convince the workers to end the strike, which began on November 6 and has led to one death and the destruction of homes and acres of vineyards. The workers are asking for more than twice their current wage, saying that they cannot live on what they currently make.
